Lydia Chorbanova graduated from the Medical Institute in Plovdiv in 1993. In 2004 she obtained a bachelor's degree in Political Science and Public Administration at the University of Athens, where she specialized in International and European sciences. In 2014 she graduated with a master's degree in Public Health and Health Management at the Medical University of Sofia, and in 2019 - with a master's degree in Legal Forecasting and Assessment of Regulations at Chernorizets Hrabar Free University of Varna and the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences.
In the period 1993-1997 she worked as a rehabilitator at the Specialized Rehabilitation Hospital in the town of Banya.
From 2004 to 2007, she was successively an expert at the Greek Refugee Council (GCR), a coordinator at an international humanitarian organization and an assistant at the Pantios Institute for Political and Social Sciences in Athens.
In the period 2013-2014 she was an advisor to the Minister of Health. From 2015 to 2018 she worked consecutively as an expert at the Standing Committee on Health and Social Policy at the Sofia Municipal Council and as a project coordinator at the Center for Innovation and Biotechnology.
She has been nominated Chief of Cabinet of the Minister of Health and is expected to be appointed.
